Shillong, Mar 11 (Reporter) Meghalaya police have arrested two persons in connection with the IED blast that occurred at the Syndicate Bus Stand near Hairjan Colony here on Saturday. While Police arrested Tarson Lymba (58) from Dawki, along the India-Bangladesh border, Ebakorda Nongpluh (26) was nabbed from the state capital on Sunday night. Lymba is the Disciplinary secretary of Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF). On Saturday night, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed inside a metal container exploded that injured one person Lakhan Singh at the Syndicate Bus Stand near Hairjan Colony and shattered the window panes of nearby houses. “We have arrested the two persons based on strong evidence of their alleged involvement in the IED blast,” Rituraj Ravi, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, told UNI over phone. “Investigation into the blast is on. We are looking out for more people who planned, executed and abetted the IED blast,” he said. When asked, Ravi said the reward of Rs One lakh to those who provide credible and substantial information leading to the arrest of any person involved in the blast crime still stands. “Anyone who provides information, their identity would not be revealed,” the police official assured. A suo-motu FIR had been registered at Sadar Police Station for further investigation into the IED blast under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. If he (Lymba) is found to be innocent, then we will consider our next course of action,” Blah said. Blah, who is also the interlocutor of the outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for the tripartite peace talks with the state and central government, revealed that Lymba plays an “important role” in the peace talks. “He (Lymba) has been part of the ongoing peace talks right from the picking up of the HNLC cadres from Dawki,” Blah said. Earlier, this year the outlawed HNLC pulled out from the tripartite peace talks with the central and state governments due to non-fulfillment of some of its core demands.
