Uttarakhand Govt imposes curfew, issues shoot-at-sight order after unrest in Haldwani

Haldwani, Feb 8 (Reporter) Following incidents of stone-pelting during removal of unauthorised structures in limits of Banbhulpura police station of Haldwani, the state government on Thursday night imposed curfew in affected area and also issued orders of shoot-at-sight on troublemakers. Following escalation of situation in Haldwani, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting with Chief Secretary Radha Ratudi and Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar to assess the situation in state capital, Dehradun. Thereafter, the Chief Minister issued stringent orders to deal firmly with troublemakers, including shooting-at-sight. Dhami also instructed officials to maintain peace, law and order at the scene, and appealed public to remain calm. The Chief Minister emphasised that no leniency should be shown to anyone involved in disruption of law and order. In light of trouble, all government and private schools and colleges in Haldwani have been ordered to remain close on Friday. Heavy police force has been deployed at the spot, and additional police and PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) were called in from other police stations. Notably, the commotion erupted during the removal of an illegal madrasa and prayer site in Malik's garden area of Banbhulpura police station, with the members of a community resorting to aggressive stone-pelting against the team of civic, police personnel, leading to hours-long chaos...////...
