Chennai, Sep 15 (Reporter) The Tamil Nadu government is taking all steps to bring back
nearly 30 Tamils who were stranded in Uttarkhand due to landslides, Chief Minister
M K Stalin said on Sunday.
In a social media post, he said he spoke to Parashakthi, one of the stranded Tamils
in Uttarakhand, over phone and said she was in a safe place.
"We are rendering all assistance to safely bring back the stranded Tamils", he said.
Mr Stalin said the State government is in touch with the Uttarkhand officials to bring
back the stranded Tamils safely.
Due to continuous rains there was a massive landslide on the Dharchula-Tawaghat
National Highway near Chaitalkot in Pithoragarh district of Uttarkhand.
As many as 30 devotees including 12 women went for a pilgrimage from Chidambaram
in Cuddalore district to Adi Kailash in Uttarakhand on September 3 through a private travel
agency.
The pilgrims were stranded after multiple landslides were reported on the Badrinath National
Highway on Saturday, September 14.
Following instructions from the Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam,
Cuddalore District Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar were in touch with the Pithoragarh Collector
and taking all steps to rescue the pilgrims and bring them back to the State.
According to reports quoting the Pithorogarh Collector, all the stranded Tamils were safely housed
in a place and the officials are waiting for the weather to clear so that they could be sent by a helicopter to enable them to travel to their home state...////...
