Valmiki scam: BJP stages protest against Karnataka govt

Bengaluru, July 18 (Reporter) The BJP on Thursday staged a protest against the state government over the alleged scams involving the Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Corporation Board and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), at Freedom Park here. The controversy centers on accusations of misappropriation of funds from the Maharshi Valmiki ST Corporation, responsible for welfare programs for scheduled tribe members. Former Minister B. Nagendra has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged multi-crore scam and he was produced before a Bengaluru court shortly after. Allegations of corruption within the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation came to light following the suicide of official P. Chandrasekaran (45), who left a note implicating several officials and alleging widespread corruption amounting to crores within the corporation. Chandrasekaran, a superintendent at the MVDC's Bengaluru office, died by suicide on May 26. In a six-page suicide note recovered by police, Chandrasekaran detailed corruption allegations involving three officials and urged action against them. On June 6, Nagendra voluntarily resigned amidst ongoing investigations into allegations of illegal fund transfers from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd.
