Chennai, Jan 4 (Reporter) The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday evening denied as 'false' and 'baseless' reports of the accused in the alleged sexual assault case at the state-run Anna University speaking to a person addressing him as 'Sir" and seizure of electronic gadgets containing obscene contents of the girl victim from him. An official release issued by the State government said the probe by the SIT, comprising three women IPS officers, constituted by the Madras High Court was on and the reports of 'Sir' and seizures being circulated in public domain by some news channels and social media platforms were unsubstantiated. It said either the SIT or any other competent authority had issued any statements or spoken to the media on the issue. It said as per the orders of the Madras High Court, an All Women Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Dr Bhukya Sneha, Deputy Commissioner Of Police, Anna Nagar, Chennai has been constituted to investigate the cases in connection with the incident. The SIT is currently conducting investigation into the cases, it said. In the meantime, some news channels and social media platforms have telecast/published certain information in the public domain commenting on the alleged leads/progress in the investigation by the SIT. In particular, these unsubstantiated forums claim that “victim girl has given statement before the SIT narrating about accused allegedly speaking to one SIR”, that “SIT has allegedly seized electronic gadgets from accused which is claimed to have contained obscene contents of the victim girl”, that “one person from Tiruppur is allegedly also identified as accused in the case”, etc, the release said. "However, it is to clarify that SIT or any other competent authority has not issued any statements or comments to any individual or media about the progress of investigation of the cases", it clarified. The information and contents being circulated in public domain about the developments and progress of the investigation of the cases by SIT is completely false and without any basis, the release said. The baseless and speculative information about the investigation of the cases by SIT not only creates confusion among the public but also has the potential to adversely affect the free and fair investigation process. In view of the serious nature of the cases involved and sensitive nature of the investigation, media houses, individuals, social media influencers etc, are requested to desist from speculating on the outcome of the investigation. "Misleading information can lead to severe consequences for the individuals involved and may undermine the integrity of the investigation process", it said...////...
