Itanagar, Apr 19 (Reporter) Voting for the simultaneous elections to the 18th Lok Sabha and 11th State Legislative Assembly in Arunachal Pradesh began Friday amid tight security. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju is in the fray from Arunachal West seeking a reelection.
Polling began at 7 am for 50 state assembly seats and two parliamentary constituencies and will continue till 5 pm.
A total of 133 candidates are in the fray for 50 Assembly seats (with 10 members already elected unopposed) and 14 contestants for the two Lok Sabha seats.
The state has 8,92,694 electorates, with female voters (4,54,256) outnumbering males (4,38,433). There are five transgender voters as well, who will vote across 2,226 polling booths in the state.
In Itanagar Assembly Constituency, which has already got its MLA elected uncontested, polling is being held for the Arunachal West Lok Sabha seat, which is being contested by eight candidates, including Union Minister and BJP nominee Kiren Rijiju and Congress’s Nabam Tuki.
The counting of votes for the assembly election will take place on June 2, two days ahead of the declaration of Lok Sabha poll results...////...
