Voting underway in Manipur for 2nd phase

Imphal, April 26 (Reporter) Voting for the Outer Manipur seat began on Friday at 7 am across eight districts. Polling have been peaceful so far. Despite an unclear weather earlier in the day, people queued up outside polling booths before 7 am. Polling will continue till 4 p.m. Thirteen Assembly segments in eight districts of Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Jiribam, Pherzawl, and Tengnoupal, having 4,84,949 voters, comprising 2,39,140 male, 2,45,807 female and two transgender voters, are polling today. There are a total of 848 polling stations, of which 202 will be completely managed by all female personnel. Arrangements for webcasting/videography have been made for these polling stations. About 87 companies of CAPF have been deployed, in addition to 4,000 state armed personnel in the polling stations. A total of 2,747 PwD electors and 454 Centenarian voters will exercise their franchise tomorrow. The first phase poll was held in 47 Assembly constituencies of both seats in Manipur. The turnout was 75.41, with the inner seat reporting 79.78 and the outer seat reporting 67.57 percent. The first phase was marred by booth capturing , attacks on Congress workers and agents, destroying of EVMs; hence repolling was held in 11 polling stations. Four candidates are in the fray for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency . The candidates are Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur , Indian National Congress , Kachui Timothy Zimik , Naga People's Front , Alyson Abonmai (Independent) and S. Kho John (independent).
