Bhopal, May 13 (Reporter) Voting for the last eight parliamentary seats of Madhya Pradesh started Monday amid tight security in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm on in Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone, and Khandwa with 74 candidates in fray
Mock polling drills were conducted ahead of 7 am.
On Sunday, State Chief Electoral Officer Anupan Rajan told reporters here, a total of 18,007 polling stations including 231 auxiliary ones are functional.
Of the 74 candidates in fray, eight each are in Dewas and Mandsaur, 11 in Khandwa, five in Khargone, 12 in Ratlam, seven in Dhar, 14 in Indore, and nine in Ujjain.
Earlier, out of the total 29 parliamentary seats in Madhya Pradesh, voting was completed on six seats in the first phase on April 19, six more in the second on April 26, and nine seats in the third phase on May 7.
A total of 1,63,07,654 voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the last phase of voting in the state. A public holiday has been announced by the state government.
Polling stations have been provided with ramp arrangement, drinking water, furniture, medical kit, electricity arrangement, help desk, signage (indicator), toilet, shade arrangement, volunteers, crèche arrangement, vehicle arrangement for the disabled etc.
In this phase, Indore parliamentary seat witnesses key contest with Congress' Akshay Kanti Bam withdrawing nomination quitting the party to join BJP. There are no Congress candidates in the electoral fray from Indore.
State Congress President Jitu Patwari and other party leaders have appealed to the people to vote for NOTA. BJP has again expressed confidence in the sitting MP from here, Shankar Lalwani.
Apart from this, in Jhabua-Ratlam, a tribal dominated area, Congress has fielded its powerful tribal leader and former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria. He is facing BJP's Anita Nagar Singh Chauhan, wife of state government minister Nagar Singh Chauhan.
BJP's Mahendra Singh Solanki is contesting against Congress' Rajendra Malviya in Dewas.
BJP's Savitri Thakur is contesting against Congress' Radheshyam Muvel in Dhar,
BJP's Dnyaneshwar Patil is contesting against Congress' Narendra Patel in Khandwa,
BJP's Gajendra Patel is contesting in Khargone.
In Mandsaur, BJP's Sudhir Gupta will face Congress' Dilip Singh Gurjar and in Ujjain, BJP's Anil Firojia will face Congress' Mahesh Parmar.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds 28 out of the current 29 seats in the state. Only Chhindwara seat is with Congress...////...
