Hyderabad, Feb 9 (Reporter) Mohammedan SC assistant coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo expressed his disappointment after his team’s 3-1 loss to Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday night. The defeat marked another frustrating night for Mohammedan SC, who showed glimpses of promise, especially in the second half, but ultimately fell short. Hyderabad FC’s Allan Paulista opened the scoring in the 24th minute and just before half-time, Ramhlunchhunga doubled the lead with a well-taken free kick. Mohammedan SC responded in the 78th minute through Makhan Chothe, who slotted home a cross from Alexis Gomez. However, Hyderabad FC sealed the win deep into stoppage time with a counterattack finished off by Joseph Sunny. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Wadoo admitted that while his team fought well, their struggles in front of goal and defensive lapses made the difference. Mohammedan SC held more of the possession but eventually could not capitalise. “In the second half especially, the team, they fought really well, they created chances. They (players) scored one and they could have scored another one also. Very unlucky, it's been the story of the season for us. We have been very unlucky in terms of scoring the goals,” he said. Mohammedan SC found themselves trailing early after conceding in the 24th minute, but they had opportunities to change the tide of the game, particularly in the latter stages. Despite a spirited push, they couldn’t find an equaliser. Mohammedan SC have conceded the highest goals conceded this season with a tally of 34 goals. “Conceding three goals, we need to work on our defence. Also, in games like this, we have to show the character, which was lagged in the first half, but second half we fought well. A lot of positives to take out of this game. And let's see what mistakes we have done, we analyse the game and make sure that the next games we try to improve,” Wadoo added. Mohammedan SC’s only goal came in the 78th minute through Makhan Chothe, who capitalised on a quick corner delivery from Alexis Gomez. Chothe’s impact off the bench was noticeable, and Wadoo was asked whether he should have introduced the changes earlier in the match. “No, I don't think so, because we wanted to wait and see, you know, how Hyderabad FC is. We did not want to concede one more. And, you know, in the second half we actually started playing well and looked a little bit confident than the first one,” he explained. Wadoo also reflected on the goals conceded, particularly the first two, which could have been prevented. Hyderabad FC’s second goal came from a free kick just outside the box, something Wadoo had warned his players about before the game. “Yeah, about the first goal, it was like a good ball from the player from Hyderabad FC and he (Paulista) had a good control on the ball and the first touch was okay. But I think it could have been saved also because it touched the hands of the goalkeeper. So I would say, yeah, it could have been saved,” he said. “The second goal, yes, conceding that free kick outside the box could have been avoided. So that is what we have been telling the players to avoid as much as possible outside the box. Yeah, so that happens in the game, but we can't help it now. But we have to make sure that we keep improving and try to do our best in the coming five games.,” he added. With five games left in the season, Wadoo stressed the importance of continuous improvement and making the most of every opportunity. Mohammedan SC remain at the bottom of the ISL table with 11 points, and only two wins. "I personally don't want to finish at the bottom of the season... It's a very difficult job now because, you know, when you are on the bottom of the table, the players, they lose the focus, they lose the motivation. We just have to try and see, live the morale of the players in training sessions and maybe talk individually to them. The next game is very important for us," he added. Mohammedan SC’s next match will be a high-stakes encounter against East Bengal FC in the Kolkata Derby on February 16. Wadoo made it clear that he expects his players to step up in such a crucial fixture. “It's a derby in Calcutta and make sure that the players, you know, they give their best in that game,” he said. As the season nears its end, Wadoo ended with speaking about the broader picture of Indian coaches making an impact in the ISL. “Well, I think Indian coaches, they have got a lot of potential. If we look at them, you know, they need chances. I have also got a chance...But, yeah, it's our responsibility also when we are at this stage and, you know, to give, to perform well so that, you know, other Indian coaches who are waiting, they get a chance,” he concluded...////...
