Wayanad, Aug 2 (Reporter) The toll in the Wayanad landslides of Kerala rose to 334 on Friday., sources said, even as government officials confirmed only 199 deaths.
The deaths were reported from Mundakkai and Choormala in Vellarimala village under Meppadi Panchayat in the district.
The toll in the July 30 disaster included 28 children.
Sources said 90 people are undergoing medical treatment at various hospitals and 281 people are still missing.
The officials confirmed only 199 deaths including 89 men, 82 women, and 28 children. So far 133 bodies have been identified, and Post mortem has been conducted on 181 bodies. As many as 116 bodies and 87 human body parts have been handed over to the families of the victims.
On the fourth day the search operation was carried out by 40 teams of the Army, NDRF, Navy, and Coast Guard with the help of sniffer dogs at Mundakkai, Attamala, Punchiri Mattam, and nearby Chooral mala regions.
The Indian Air Force operation was underway to airlift the survivors from the disaster areas.
Meanwhile, a thermal radar scanner detected three signals of breathing during the search and rescue operations were going on in the night also.
Earlier, the Army personnel rescued four persons including two men and two women from Padavatti Kunu, an isolated remote area of Mundakkai, on Friday.
The house was far away from the path of the massive landslides that hit the area at Mundakkai...////...
