Wayanad (Kerala), Nov 13 (Reporter) More than 40 percent voter turnout was recorded in the byelection to Wayanad Lok Sabha Constituency till 1 pm on Wednesday where Congress Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was making her electoral debut. The voting started at 7 am this morning and it will continue until 6 pm. Long queues were seen at the polling booths and a peaceful polling was underway so far. The bypoll was necessitated after Congress leader and Priyanka's brother Rahul Gandhi decided to resign the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat to retain Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi won the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in the May 2024 Lok Sabha election. Piyanka is pitted against 16 candidates, including Sathyan Mokeri of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Navya Haridas of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (EVM) disrupted polling for a brief period at few booths and it was rectified by the officials later. Priyanka Gandhi who visited a polling booth told reporters that " the people of Wayanad will give me a chance to repay the love and affection they have shown me and I am fully expecting in this regard"...////...
