Chennai, Dec 26 (Reporter) The Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the Bay weakened
into a Low Pressure area and became less marked, even as incessant rains which
lashed Chennai and its neighbouring Northern districts, on Thursday, morning, with
sun shining brightly.
Despite the system becoming well marked, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at
a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area till the New Year day.
Met office said Yesterday’s Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh andNorth Tamil Nadu coasts moved
westwards and weakened into a Low Pressure Area over the same region at 0530 hrs and
became less marked at 0830 hrs today.
However, the associated cyclonic circulation persists over the same region and now extends
up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
On the forecast and warnings for for the seven days, the Met office update at 1300 hrs said
light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm and lightening at one or two places
is likely to occur over TN, Puducherry and Karaikal area tomorrow.
For the next five days, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamil
Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Mist/Haze is likely to prevail during early morning hours at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The forecast for Chennai City and its neighbourhood for the next 48 hrs is that the sky condition would be partly cloudy with light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning likely to occur
in some areas.
Meanwhile, incessant rains lashed Chennai City and its suburbs and neighbouring districts this morning as the system persisted over the North Tamil Nadu Coast.
However, once the system weakened and became less marked, the rains abated, paving way
for a bright sunshine...////...
