Chennai, Dec 11(Reporter) Yesterday’s Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the
Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal lay over southwest Bay of
Bengal off Sri Lanka coast with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation
extending up to mid-tropospheric levels.
The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards towards
Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 24 hours, Met office on Wednesday
said.
It is expected to bring in heavy rains in North Tamil Nadu and in Cauvery delta
and also in southern districts for the next 2-3 days.
Met office said as of now it is unlikely to intensify as a Cyclone as there are
still several stages left.
It has now only became a Well Marked Low Pressure. Then it should become
as Depression, Deep Depression and then as Cyclone, Regional Met office
Director S.Balachandran said, adding the movement of the systems was being
continuously monitored.
There might be heavy rains, some times very heavy at isolated places, but
it would not be to the extent of the Cyclone Fengal induced rains that battered
several districts.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Cuddalore,
Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai districts of
Tamil Nadu and Karaikal area.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Sivaganga,
Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi,
Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur districts
of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ariyalur,
Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukkottai districts of Tamil Nadu tomorrow.

Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi,
Cuddalore, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram,
Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Theni,
Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi districts of Tamil
Nadu Puducherry and Karaikal area.
On December 13, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over
Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar,
Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga,
Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu.
There is expected to be lull for two days and on December 16 and 17
heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places Chengalpattu,
Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur,
Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry and Karaikal area.
