Widespread rains lash J&K; Gulmarg records highest rainfall

Srinagar, Apr 17 (Reporter) Widespread rains lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours with the tourist resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir receiving the highest rainfall ,Meteorological Department said on Thursday. MeT said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience isolated light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph over the next 24 hours. They said the weather conditions are expected to turn more active in the subsequent two days, with fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain or thundershowers anticipated across J&K. Moderate to heavy rain is also likely at a few places on April 18 and 19, along with thunder and gusty winds starting from the evening of April 18 and continuing till late night on April 20, the MeT office added. MeT said the tourist resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district received the highest rainfall in the region, recording 39.4 mm. In the last 24 hours the summer capital Srinagar recorded 17.9 mm of rain, while Qazigund and Pahalgam in south Kashmir received 20.8 mm and 16.0 mm respectively. Kupwara in north and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded 10.8 mm and 22.0 mm. In Jammu Division, rains were more intense in some areas. Jammu city received 32.6 mm of rain. Banihal was among the wetter places in the division with 24.0 mm of rainfall. The MeT data also revealed that Batote and Bhaderwah saw 17.2 mm and 10.3 mm of rain...////...
