Bengaluru, Nov 18 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday announced his government’s decision to file a lawsuit against the BJP-led NDA in Maharashtra, accusing it of spreading 'fake news' about the Congress government’s flagship guarantee schemes. Speaking at an event here, Siddaramaiah also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly propagating "misinformation" during election campaigns in poll-bound states. "It is deeply disappointing that the Prime Minister is spreading misinformation about our guarantee schemes in Karnataka. Additionally, advertisements by the NDA in Maharashtra are promoting 'false claims' about our initiatives. We intend to take legal action to address these efforts to damage Karnataka’s reputation." Siddaramaiah said. Siddaramaiah also criticised the BJP for failing to implement similar welfare schemes in the states it governs, pointing out that Karnataka spends Rs 56,000 crore annually on its programmes, as promised during the 2023 Assembly elections, instead of focusing on maligning others. The Chief Minister also attacked former CM HD Kumaraswamy for his silence on issues related to tax devolution. Karnataka contributes Rs 4.5 lakh crore annually in taxes to the Centre but receives only Rs 59,000-60,000 crore in return, he alleged. "If we give Re 1, we get back just 14 paise. Why isn’t Kumaraswamy speaking up in Delhi about this? Instead, he seems to blindly support the Prime Minister," Siddaramaiah remarked. The remarks come in response to Prime Minister Modi’s indirect criticism of the Congress government, alleging that it was "misleading" people with its guarantee schemes.
