Mumbai, Aug 26 (Reporter) The Western Railway conducted a two-day special ticket checking drive in Mumbai suburban air-conditioned trains and collected fines worth Rs four lakh from 1,273 commuters travelling without valid tickets, officials said on Monday. The special drive was conducted on August 23 and 24, in collaboration with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and was strategically conducted during morning and evening peak hours, targeting times when unauthorised commuters might attempt to blend in with the crowd. On the first day of the drive, 595 passengers were penalised, followed by 678 on the second day. officials added.
