Bengaluru, Oct 23 (Reporter) Senior leader CP Yogeshwara has formally applied for a Congress ticket ahead of Channapatna bypoll, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar confirmed here on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media, Shivakumar stated, "Yogeshwara met me this morning. After discussions with my colleagues and the high command, we have decided to admit him to the party. I have informed my Chief Minister and the high command. He has applied for a ticket, and I will send my recommendations to the high command before we take a final call."
Shivakumar assured that the decision had widespread support within the party. "Hundred percent. Before admitting him, I have been discussing with all the party cadres and district leaders. They all agreed because we want the seat to favour the Congress party. We had our own strength, but we have spoken to various leaders," he said.
On JDS leader and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s confidence in winning the Channapatna bypoll, Shivakumar dismissed it, highlighting Kumaraswamy's weakened position. "When he was offering his own seat to the BJP, it shows how weak he was. He represented the seat twice. He also was a CM from there. He is a parliament member. He vacated his seat because he lacked confidence and was surrendering the ticket."
